Açaí: Yes it is great, but …

For some time now a lot has been written about the Acai. And obviously there are enormous health and nutritional benefits that come with this fruit. It really is an excellent source of antioxidants but, and there is always a but, there is no such thing as “super food”.

It is always a good idea to go back to the old adage: If it is too good to be true, then it is too good to be true”.

As with any type of food, and just about everything else in life,  you have to find a balance with things; all extremes fail.  And the Acai fruit is no exception. It is good for you as a part of your diet.  It doesn’t replace everything else and equally important is the fact that it isn’t the solution for everything.

There has been a lot of talk about its dieting and weight loss benefits.  Well in very simple terms, this has not been proved.

It is an excellent source of fiber, amino acids and heart healthy fatty acids that aid in digestion.  As part of a healthy diet it is highly recommended.  As a stand alone dieting solution it does leave a lot to be desired, not because it has faults, but because nature doesn’t work that way.

So in simple terms:

  • Don’t believe everything you read.
  • Yes, the Acai is good for your overall health.
  • No, it is not THE solution to everything.
