Antioxidant Coffee Benefits
Posted By admin on December 30, 2008
As a coffee person I am pleased to find that research is being done on the antioxidant benefits of coffee.
A study, dating from 2005, and made by researchers at the University of Scranton, (PA) found that coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in the US.
Americans obtain more of their antioxidants from coffee than from any other source and the reason is quite simple. It is not that coffee is the greatest source of antioxidants, but the daily intake, a cup or two, is part of the American diet. Regular consumption has made coffee an important source of antioxidants for many Americans.
Another important point, which is also applicable to all antioxidant sources, is that the actual benefits will be the result of how often we drink coffee (or particular fruits for that matter), the serving size and our body’s capacity to absorb it.
Besides keeping you alert and awake, coffee has been linked to an increasing number of potential health benefits, including protection against liver and colon cancer, type 2 diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease, according to some recently published studies.
As with everything else, moderation is in order. In other words don’t rush out and fill yourself with coffee – but a daily cup will be useful.
There are many people who get the coffee jitters or adverse reactions, but you do have alternatives and one of the best is to drink green tea.
In the meantime I will have my early morning and after lunch cup of coffee ’cause I enjoy it and see it as a small part of my overall (and I trust) healthier diet.
At the same time I will continue to eat fruits and vegetables, which are better for you from an overall nutritional point of view due to their higher content of vitamins, minerals and fiber.
