Antioxidants Are Competing For Your Health, Believe It Or Not

Antioxidants are competing for your health, believe it or not.

Natural antioxidants come from the different foods we eat. The fresher the fruit, the better for our health. Fresh food delivers the nutrients, antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and fiber our bodies need and these are absorbed according to these needs and the rest is eliminated. The eliminating side is one of the major advantages natural food has over supplements; another is the quality of the nutrients.

Now nature has developed over millions of years, and living organisms have survived by getting their act together. So when we say “mother nature knows best”, we are stating a truism.

Living organisms have to feed and reproduce in order to survive and in this survival game different strategies have evolved. For example, parasites live off the host organism.

There is another delightful strategy “called symbiosis” meaning the relationship between two different species where each gains benefits from the other. And this is where food, color and your health are joined together.

  • Take a blueberry. When ripe it is juicy and tastes very nice. You (and a few other mammals, birds and insects – who also use their sense of smell) can tell it is ripe for picking by its color. Now the blueberry, being a smart berry that has survived thousands of years, wants you to eat it and its brother berries, so it adds tasty things that will also feed you. These tasty things will include vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants, so you will come back for more.
  • Take a strawberry. The same thing will happen. Now both the strawberry and the blueberry want to be eaten so their seeds can be spread around. But a new element is in play. They are competing for your business. The strawberries and the blueberries want to make themselves attractive to you. They have different colors, different tastes but they also have different vitamins and antioxidants that you also need.
  • Carrots appear to be in a different sport, but just like these berries, they have a different color, different nutrients, different tastes. And they offer you different benefits that your body needs.
  • And the list goes on.

How can this benefit you?

It is quite simple, nature has set up a color code for you to follow. So take fresh organic food, mix it by colors and your antioxidant needs will be taken care of. Do you honestly think that processed food, candy and juices use colors by coincidence?

At different times you will find certain foods attractive because of their color. This is your body talking to you as a result of thousands of years of building up genetic memory.

Listen to it, at the end of the day it really knows best.
